How happy are Sunflowers! During late summer and early autumn I make them a feature in my life. I visit flower farms, plant rows in the garden, wear sunflower patterned clothes and earrings and of course draw them.

This piece titled “With My Bucket” is about sunflowers and the colours of late summer. This is a glorious time of year, with long light filled days. In the late afternoon, the sea breeze dies down, and rock pools get explored on the low tide.

Speaking of sunflowers, how cute is this smiley face illustration! It was inspired by the re-imagining of a child's creation that was made with cup cake paper eyes. I made this design for the pure joy of it. It hangs in my home. It belongs to no collection and is not my usual theme but it makes me happy and I love it. Yellow smiley faces were all the rage in the 90s. Maybe there is a bit of that nostalgia in there too.

Then there are these designs, part of a large petal blooms collection I did of summer flowers; roses, hydrangea, marigolds and sunflowers.

Late summer colours are preparing for autumn, but with all the pep and joy of warm sunshine.
